UWTV Production provides media services that support the mission of the University of Washington to preserve, advance and disseminate knowledge. Our services include broadcast television production, editing, and distribution (for a complete list of services click here). All services are offered on a self-sustaining basis.

Broadcast Scheduling and Program Approval

UWTV will work with you to establish a broadcast schedule that meets your communication requirements. To allow processing time, broadcast programs must be approved at least three weeks prior to the first scheduled air date. If approval is not received in time, the program may be replaced with other available programming.

Copyright Release and Clearance

Copyright can be a tricky issue when it comes to broadcast and internet distribution. All content must be free from copyright infringement. In most cases, educational “fair use” cannot be relied on for broadcast and Internet distribution. Prior to production, presenters are asked to sign UWTV’s Release and Clearance (Adobe PDF) document, which states they have the right to use all materials in the production.

Cost Estimates

UWTV Production will gladly provide cost estimates for projects. Estimates are based on information provided by the requestor, and actual charges may vary if project parameters change. Estimates assume billing to a UW budget number and non-UW budgets are subject to a separate fee schedule. Projects are billed for actual time and materials. Rates and services are subject to change.

Note: As a general rule, we do not provide services without a direct or substantial relationship with the University of Washington.

Distribution of Programs

In addition to broadcast and Internet distribution of programs, UWTV Production provides public distribution of video programs on DVD with the following understanding:

  • The videos distributed will be those listed on the uwtv.org web site.  UWTV Production will update these offerings with new programs as they are completed.  If you do not want a particular video offered for distribution, please let us know and we will be glad to comply.
  • The distribution will include making the programs available to individuals and organizations (including university departments) for personal or educational use.
  • UWTV Production will process and complete all requests for copies of the programs at its own expense and will retain the fees associated with recovering the cost of distributing the video programs.

To withdraw a program from public distribution, please e-mail us.

Production Cancellation Policy

At UWTV Production, our goal is to offer excellent value and quality service at a reasonable price. One way that we control costs is by allocating staff, facilities and other resources efficiently.

Any work canceled at least two working days (48 hours) prior to the scheduled start time will not be billed.

Activities canceled between 48 hours and 24 hours before the scheduled start time will incur a charge of 50 percent of the rate for the scheduled resources, unless UWTV Production is able to resell the time.

Activities canceled with less than 24 hours notice will incur a charge of 100 percent of the rate for the scheduled resources and a minimum of four hours of crew time, unless UWTV Production is able to resell the time.

Weekend cancellations must be made by 5 p.m. the previous Thursday to avoid charges. When a UW holiday or closure falls within the cancellation period, an additional 24 hours notification is required.

If a project is canceled prior to completion, all services provided up to the cancellation date, including pre-production work, will be billed.

Notification may be left 24 hours per day by e-mailing us or calling (206) 616-1530 and leaving a voicemail message.
